I think there is a very interesting set of appraisal questions to work through with these kinds of projects. That is, in what cases do the frames matter? When is the real value of a project the output of a particular dataset or database? When do you want to try and just get someone to crawl the site with Heritrix and serve it up via the Way Back Machine?

Would also be interesting to discuss ways to make sure these projects work as originally built. We’ve been involved in updating a few sites lately, and one of the first things to usually go are the use of frames. But as much as I hate frames, a part of me is sad to see them go, since they made up a big part of the innovation of the project in the first place.

Let me know if there is anything I can do to help.
